We achieved the lighting design goals of increasing the level of illumination in the nave, providing for video taping, and accentuating the pulpit, the altar, the bishop’s chair and three sculptures at the transept. These were accomplished with a minimum impact to the 50 year old gothic masonry structure.
We used quartz sources throughout the interior with column mounted indirect lighting on the ceiling vaults, recessed ceiling mounted down lights for the nave seating, both recessed ceiling and wall surface mounted floods and spots for television and accent lighting. Existing gothic fixtures were removed, renovated with both direct and up lighting and then reinstalled to achieve increased lighting levels along the nave sides.
We engineered a dimming system with programmable presets to control all the lighting systems.
On the exterior we used gothic post tops and ground mounted walkway luminaires to create an inviting pedestrian entrance and gathering area.

We designed three special lighting systems in addition to the normal lighting for this 14,000 square foot headquarters building. In the Memorial Hall, we illuminated the flags and banners by backlighting to avoid shadows. In the Hall of Fame, we accented wall hung photographs of military leaders. And in the Executive Council Chamber, we designed the lighting system to exactly coordinate with the custom conference table.
